Wellness Rx's Pharmacy for the Public Good is breaking new ground as a wellness center and a place for everyone, regardless of income level, to receive treatment and care from a non-profit pharmacy and not a corporate one.

(Tannersville, NY - October 31, 2022) – Ed Ullmann, Chief Pharmacist and Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Wellness Rx Pharmacy, 5980 Main Street in Tannersville, NY announced today that Wellness Rx Pharmacy and Pharmacy for the Public Good (PPG) have signed a five (5) year lease agreement to bring a Wellness Center and Pharmacy to Phoenicia, NY, in the Town of Shandaken.

Close to home here in the Catskills while the nation endured a paralyzing pandemic, Ed Ullmann of the mountain top community pharmacy Wellness Rx, figured out that corporate pharmacy and healthcare in America were under-serving those that needed help the most and found a way to change that immediately. He designed a blueprint to open America’s first community nonprofit pharmacy, for the public good of all and mostly to help tomorrow’s kids. He would convert his Tannersville location to a nonprofit business model to protect it and save it from corporate raiders and then open the first “Pharmacy for the Public Good” in Phoenicia, NY in the summer of 2022.‍

Ed Ullmann is the owner and pharmacy manager of Wellness Rx, a holistic and patient-centered pharmacy in Tannersville, and soon ... Phoenicia! Far from the chain store aesthetic (or lack thereof) the Tannersville location where we met is a meticulously painted Victorian with a wraparound porch. Inside there's a warm general store vibe, with wood floors and pharmacy cases, and a diverse inventory of traditional, natural, and holistic medicine; plus home goods, gifts, and crafts by dozens of local vendors. Ed Ullmann showed us around, and then we settled into a comfortable consultation room, to hear his vision for sustainable rural healthcare.

Visionaries, especially in dark times, show us the bright contrast of the light. Ed Ullmann and his devoted staff at Wellness Rx are doing just that.

The guide is a starting point with additions being added to reflect new and changing resources within Greene County and the surrounding regional community. The guide is the result of input from the many volunteers of the Mountain Top Cares Coalition that are committed to connect with people or families who are struggling with addiction or are in recovery and need a helping hand. Wellness Rx is proud to be part of this movement. Truth is, we are all in this thing of life together. The quarterback for the project was Gabby Gockel. Gabby was an intern at Wellness Rx studying to become a certified social worker (MSW). Gabby is an inspiring professional that also brought her light and skills to many other Mountain Top Care Coalition initiatives.
